Big Brothers and Big Sisters are adults who say, “Yes, you can!” to a child. They are the grown-ups we knew during childhood who took the time to listen, taught us how to skate, cheered us on to score the winning goal or consoled us when we didn’t.Big Brothers and Big Sisters are caring volunteers who provide children with responsible friendships, supported and guided by our highly trained staff of child development professionals.
Eligibility:
Before referring a child to the program, all Parents, Guardians and third parties are asked to please read Our Programs and the Refer A Child FAQ (frequently asked questions) carefully. These will help you better understand the programs we offer. Please note:
- The child must be at least 7 years old and not have passed his/her 13th birthday at time of enrollment
- He/she must be capable of relating to and developing a friendship with a volunteer who is a caring adult but not a trained specialist or youth development professional
- The custodial parent or guardian of the child must be aware that this referral is being made and support the child’s participation in a Big Brothers Big Sisters’ program (applies to third-party referrers only)
- Not all children referred to the program will be accepted. Our programs are volunteer and donor supported and our ability to make matches depends on having the right resources available at the right time in the right place to meet a child’s needs.
In Greater Boston, Big Brothers Big Sisters programs for children are also offered by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston and Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. This referral system is for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay.
Please enter the child’s age below. We will then ask for the child’s zip code and give you information specific to that location before taking you to an Application/Referral Form and Child/Family Profile Questionnaire.
