The nation’s largest male and adult-child one-to-one Community Based mentoring agency - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay, seeks energetic individuals to work with our diverse and dynamic staff at our various Cape Cod and Islands offices located in Centerville, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. In all locations, the right intern will assist in volunteer enrollment, youth enrollment, and match support of over 300 “Big/Little” relationships. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the not for profit sector and mentoring in particular.
Responsibilities:
q Assist with community recruitment of volunteer “Bigs” and youth “Littles”
q Assist in the enrollment, assessment, and matching of volunteer Bigs
q Assist in the facilitation of training for “Bigs” and “Littles”
q Identify and assist in activities for Bigs and Littles
q Research and catalogue resources (housing, recreational, therapeutic) for families and Bigs.
q Work with the Site/School Based Mentoring team to make and support school and site based matches.
q Update information for youth waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Sister.
q Provide other administrative support as needed
Requirements:
q Availability to work 10 -15 flexible hours per week during school term semester or summer break (2 months minimum requirement) Will include some evenings and weekends. Could also be a year long internship.
q Goal-driven junior, senior or graduate student or Adult with some volunteer experience with non-profits
q Working knowledge of computer and general word processing software
q Strong time-management and organizational skills a must
q Ability to self-motivate and stay on task
Bi-lingual and mentoring experience a plus!
Compensation: Unpaid - If applicable can be used for credit in internship course.
Additional: This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the not-for-profit sector. You will work in a “hands-on” environment with individuals who respond daily to critical community issues. This is also a great chance to develop above-entry-level skills.
