About Us: Marketing and Communications Internship

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay - seeks an energetic individual to work with a diverse and dynamic team, in a fast-paced environment. The right intern will assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies and tactics that will result in recruiting volunteers and youth.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay is among the largest youth mentoring agencies in the country, serving more male youth with caring one-to-one, long-term volunteer adult friends than any other. This form of adult mentoring has been proven to be of most positive influence for a young person.

Responsibilities:      

*      Provide technical, administrative and some creative support to the agency’s Marketing Department for all recruitment marketing activities (mass marketing – PR, advertising, direct mail, directory listings, and web sites).

*      Assist with marketing strategy-related tasks, including project management, market analysis, web-site maintenance, data-entry, and development of general collateral materials. 

*      Participate in volunteer and youth recruitment activities and support with inside sales response and follow up. 

Requirements:         

*      Flexible, ideally 15 – 30  hours per week

*      Goal-driven (mature) sophomore,  junior, senior or graduate student

*      Communications, marketing or public relations background preferred

*      Working knowledge of computer and general word processing software

*      Familiarity with web site maintenance tools

*      Familiarity with social media

*      Effective interpersonal and public-speaking skills

*      Enthusiasm, sense of humor and a positive, can-do attitude

*      Ability to self-motivate and stay on task

Compensation:      Unpaid.  If applicable, experience can be used for credit in internship course. Also, complimentary participation in all Big Brothers Big Sisters events and agency activities will be made available.

Additional:               This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the not-for-profit sector.  You will work in a “hands-on” environment with individuals who respond daily to critical community issues.  This is also a great chance to develop above-entry-level skills.
