One of the largest adult-to-child mentoring organizations in the country - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay - seeks an energetic individual to work with a diverse and dynamic team, in a fast-paced environment The right intern will assist in developing and implementing recruitment and marketing strategies that will result in recruiting male volunteers for the agency’s programs within the collegiate setting across all sectors: college students, administration and faculty, graduate schools and alumni. This individual will also assist as needed with general volunteer recruitment which may include recruiting and qualifying community events and prospective mentor-rich partners.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, coordinate and conduct recruitment events to build awareness and generate interest in the agency’s programs.
- Serve as BBBS’ representative on assigned campus.
- Effectively attract interested individuals to become volunteers as demonstrated by the generating volunteer inquiries and motivating prospective volunteers to begin the enrollment process.
- Develop relationships with student clubs, athletic teams, ministries, multicultural and fraternal organizations and event coordinators on campus for the purpose of recruiting male volunteers.
- Identify, research and contact potential volunteer-rich partners to explore potential recruitment and outreach opportunities. Includes identifying key decision makers within campus and community based organizations.
Requirements:
Availability to work 10 -15 flexible hours per week from September to December, or end of first semester of school term (may include some evenings and weekends)
- Goal-driven sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student
- Communications, marketing or public relations background preferred
- Working knowledge of general word processing software
- Dynamic interpersonal and public-speaking skills
- Strong time-management and organizational skills a must
- Ability to self-motivate and stay on task
Bi-lingual and mentoring experience a plus!
Compensation:
This internship does not offer a stipend, but may qualify for course credit, work study or an internship course.

This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into a leading youth service agency in the not-for-profit sector. You will work in a “hands-on” environment with individuals who respond daily to critical community issues. This is also a great chance to develop above-entry-level skills.
