It takes just a few steps for a child to be considered as a Little.
- In the Refer-a-Child section of the web site, tell us the child’s age.
- Tell us where he/she lives or goes to school.
- We will then give you program details specific to that area.
- Tell us your relationship to the child.
- Complete and submit the on-line application, including the Child/Family Profile
- We’ll get back to you when we receive it.
Depending on how many youth are waiting for Bigs in the area where the youth lives, we’ll let you know how long it may be before we can consider enrolling the youth in our program
When the time comes for enrollment (this could be several months from the date of inquiry) we’ll call the parent or guardian to set up time for one of our staff members to meet with the youth and family at home.
After that, we’ll look for a volunteer Big whose interests match those of the youth and talk to both the family and the volunteer about this potential friendship.
If both parties agree, we set a date for the volunteer and youth to meet, accompanied by an agency staff member
Although it takes only a few minutes to submit an application, it may take several months before we are able to schedule an enrollment interview and even more time before we can match a child with a Big Brother or Sister. How quickly this happens depends on how many youth in your area are waiting for Bigs and how many volunteer Bigs we have who share the youth’s interests.
