We are proud to announce that Big Night 10, with the help of hundreds of generous donors, raised $1.2 million in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay and the kids we serve!
Held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Big Night featured an outstanding performance by the Steve Miller Band. Playing hits like The Joker, Rockin’ Me and Swingtown, Steve Miller and his band even extended their set for an extra 30 minutes as they were clearly enjoying the nearly 1,000 person crowd. In addition to this legendary band, we also had one of our most inspirational speakers to date, Curtis Blyden, making this year’s Big Night a spectacular evening. All the while guests celebrated the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, enjoying a return to simpler times of peace, love and happiness.
Curtis, former Little Brother of Chairman of the Board Tim Dibble, stole the evening’s spotlight when he reminisced about the huge role Tim played in making him the successful young man he is today. He truly captivated the audience as he shared his heartfelt memories and thanked Tim publicly for the many life-changing experiences made possible by Tim's friendship and commitment to Curtis over the past 19 years. Curtis ended on this powerful note: “Tim is my best friend. I can’t promise you that every Big and Little relationship will be like ours…but by you being here and supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters, you create an opportunity to connect other Bigs like Tim with children like me.” Today, Curtis is a project manager at City Year. In 2004 he graduated from Curry College, then served with the Peace Corps in Mongolia for two years.
On the 10th anniversary of Big Night, during these uncertain economic times, our event focused on putting kids in need first. We are proud to serve many more children like Curtis thanks to the support of our generous sponsors and guests.
