Bob Cameron of Weston, Mass, died peacefully the evening of December 13 at the Mass General Hospital in Boston after a short illness. Bob served on the Board for more than ten years beginning in 1988 and then as Board Emeritus until his passing. Bob helped raised millions of dollars for the organization through the Vision 2000 & 40th Anniversary capital campaign. It is a testament to his devotion to our mission that in lieu of flowers, Bob's family is requesting that donations be made to the agency.
A long time supporter and volunteer fund raiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters as well as a supporter of the Mass General Hospital within the business community, Bob believed in the value of education for his family and all children as an investment in the future.
Beloved husband of Carolyn (Colby) for 53 years, he was a devoted father to Mollie, Jane, Laurie and the late Robert Jr and cherished grandfather to John Robert Johnson and Jesse Colby Johnson. A graduate of the Belmont Hill School and Harvard University (class of 1949) he was active in alumni affairs and an enthusiastic supporter of both schools. He joined the Insurance Company of North America upon graduation and returned to INA after serving as Staff Sergeant in the US Army in Korea. He subsequently joined Johnson & Higgins insurance brokerage to start up the Boston office. He ran that office for over 35 years until his retirement in 1990, being named a Director of J&H in 1976 and serving on the board until he retired. An active fisherman, he had an annual trip to fish for salmon each spring in Canada, and spent the summers in Damariscotta, Maine where he had a vacation home and enjoyed bass fishing in the lake. A Memorial Service is being planned for March 2010.
